PASSPORT APPLICATIONS
- HOW CAN XPATWEB ASSIST WITH MY PASSPORT APPLICATION?
- We assist by facilitating the process of your new or renewal of passport application.
For an online application, Xpatweb will assist with –
- hassle-free completion of any administrative documentation;
- directing you on how to make the online payment;
- booking your appointment to complete the biometric process;
- providing step-by-step guidance on the biometric process;
- follow up and tracking your passport application once submitted; and.
- notifying you once your passport is ready.
Should you not qualify to submit your application online, Xpatweb may assist with the preparation of the application to be submitted at your nearest Department of Home Affairs (DHA) office.

- HOW DO I KNOW IF I QUALIFY TO SUBMIT MY PASSPORT APPLICATION THROUGH A STANDARD BANK BRANCH?
- You will qualify if you are an existing Standard Bank client and if you acquired your South African citizenship at birth or descent (that is, if you were born to South African parents).
- I ACQUIRED MY SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENSHIP THROUGH NATURALISATION, DO I QUALIFY TO SUBMIT AN ONLINE APPLICATION?
- Unfortunately, not. You will be required to personally attend to your nearest DHA office to submit and complete the passport application process. Xpatweb can assist and guide you through this process including hassle-free completion of any administrative documentation, guidance on the supporting documents required, as well as accompany you to the DHA office to facilitate the submission process (region dependent).
- HOW MUCH DOES A PASSPORT APPLICATION COST?
- The DHA fee of a passport application is dependent on the category of passport you wish to apply for (e.g. tourist, maxi-tourist, other). The relevant costing will be provided by the consultant assisting you.
- THE ONLINE SYSTEMS STATES THAT I CANNOT PROCEED WITH MY APPLICATION AS I HAVE A PENDING APPLICATION ON THE OLD DHA SYSTEM, WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
- You will need to proceed to your nearest DHA branch for the relevant official to amend the status or cancel the pending application. Xpatweb can assist and guide you through this process including accompanying you to the DHA office to facilitate (region dependent).
- CAN XPATWEB ASSIST WITH MY ID REPLACEMENT APPLICATION?
- At this stage, Xpatweb cannot assist with ID applications due to the nature of the application. However, we can assist and facilitate the first-time ID book applications for Permanent Resident holders. Contact us on standardbank@xpatweb.com for more details.
- WHAT IS THE BIOMETRIC PROCESS?
- The DHA biometric process is where a DHA official electronically takes your fingerprints (off both hands) and takes a photograph, which will be used in your passport. No sunglasses, hats or any accessories which cover your face will be permitted for the photograph – as a security measure.
- I AM A SOUTH AFRICAN PERMANENT RESIDENT HOLDER. HOW CAN I APPLY FOR A SOUTH AFRICAN PASSPORT?
- Unfortunately, Permanent Resident holders do not qualify for South African passports until such time they gain South African citizenship. Click here to learn more about how to obtain Citizenship.
- IF I USE XPATWEB’S PASSPORT APPLICATION SERVICE, DO I PHYSICALLY NEED TO VISIT A DHA BRANCH OR OFFICE?
- Yes, you do. All applications must be submitted in person by the applicant to verify your identity and complete the required biometrics. This process cannot be circumvented as it is a necessary DHA verification process.
- CAN I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION AT A STANDARD BANK BRANCH AND COLLECT IT AT MY NEAREST DHA BRANCH?
- Unfortunately, not. You will be required to collect your passport at the Standard Bank Branch or DHA office where your application was completed and submitted. Additionally, Xpatweb and Standard Bank cannot collect and courier your passport on your behalf, you must collect in person.
