Senegal is a country in western Africa with an Atlantic Ocean coastline. Neighbouring countries include The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, and Mauritania.

Senegal’s geography is mostly flat, and the northern border is formed by the Senegal River. Senegal has a mixed economic system in which the presence of the state in the economy is considerable, but there is limited private sector freedom. Tourist visas are issued to foreign nationals who would like to sojourn in Senegal for a brief visit such as to visit family or participate in cultural activities. These visas are issued for up to 90 days depending on nationality. Any form of work-related activities is prohibited.

Business visa

Issued for business-related activities such as attending meetings, conferences or participating in training
May be granted for up to 90 days

Business visas are issued to individuals who would like to conduct business-related activities, such as attending meetings or conferences, establishing professional and business contacts, and participating in training. This visa may be granted for up to 90 days for single or multiple entries depending on nationality.

Work Permit

Allows you to legally work
Valid for a period of 2 years
Must also obtain a Residence Permit

A long-term work permit enables a professional employed in Senegal to work legally in the country for up to two years. This permit can be renewed provided the applicant has a valid contract of employment with the same host company.

The work permit is issued by the Directorate of Labor and is valid for an initial period of 24 months except where the duration stated in the contract is less than 24 months.

Residence permit

Allows you to reside in Senegal
Issued for an initial period of 6 months
Document requirements vary for ECOWAS nationals

The residence permit is issued by the Ministry of Interior and / police des etrangers et des titres de voyage. It is issued for an initial period of 6 months and is subject to renewal at least five (5) working days before expiry. Some nationalities are required to be physically present when a resident permit is submitted to the Ministry of Interior.

Clearance for Short-term Offshore activities

Employees planning to undertake temporary offshore activities without a work permit must seek clearance from the Ministry of Interior through the Immigration department of Commissariat Speciale du Port prior to their arrival. Their application for clearance must be done on the same day the assignee arrives in-country at Commissariat Speciale du Port on assignee’s arrival.
